The Cemetery of the Poor

The cemetery, where 54 detainees who passed in the political prison are believed to have been buried, part of the Memorial to the Victims of Communism and the Resistance, is surrounded by fir trees displayed in the shape of Romania. At the point where the town of Sighetu Marmației is located, an altar-cenotaph was erected on this map, behind which a Byzantine-style cross was placed. The cemetery also houses memorial plaques, a Memorial Gate, crucifixes, and urns containing earth brought from various prisons, camps, and deportation centers.
