The Land of Maramureș
The Land of Maramureș or Historical Maramureș, a reference area for the cultural-traditional-historical heritage of Romania, includes the northern half of Maramureș County, also called Historical Maramureș. Authentic traditional culture pervades every corner of this area, being highlighted especially by the art of woodworking and the traditional dress that is still worn with pride, but also by secular customs. Museums, monasteries, wooden churches included in the UNESCO patrimony, the Merry Cemetery or the steam train on the Vaser Valley are just some of the attractions of this area.
